Avonlea Cardigan
Introducing my very first garment pattern, the Avonlea Cardigan.
"It's a sweater!" El Guapo would be proud.
I began crocheting when I was pregnant with my littlest babe. Going from carving to crochet was a good choice since there were now going to be 3 tiny people running, scooting and crawling around the house. I needed a craft that I could set down without running the risk of injuries. Time to put the knives away for a while and get out the hooks. Ooh, maybe my blog should be called "From Knives to Hooks." What do you think?
Anyway, I learned fairly quickly from so many wonderful youtube videos and books. I found myself always wanting a new challenge. A new stitch, a new project, each one harder than the last. When I started garment patterns, I knew this was the crochet world that I needed to be in. But how in the world do people come up with these patterns? I am continually astounded by the genius of the folks who churn out garment patterns. Their design skills, their math skills, their brain power.....its boggling. I learn so much from each pattern I attempt.
After several completed projects, an idea began to emerge in my muddled brain. I took up the hook and some sock yarn that I had on hand and just started. Didn't know where I was going but hey, it looked pretty good. And to my amazement the Avonlea Cardigan took shape.

While this pattern has a fairly simple construction, it looks more complicated than it is. The lace column stitch came from @themailodesign. She has such beautiful lace stitches. You can check out her blog here and get some ideas for your next project.
